WASHINGTON - The Washington Spirit announced that they were continuing to work towards a more patriotic roster for 2017 as they sever ties with players like Ali Krieger and Christine Nairn.
"We decided over the course of the season that our roster wasn't patriotic enough and didn't support our love of the best country on the face of the planet," stated owner Bill Lynch.
"The Washington Spirit is all about great soccer, community involvement, fanatical devotion to the best country ever, standing for the national anthem, and asking our players to not outwardly display their support of LGBTQ causes. As such, it behooves us to ensure that our roster reflects this."
Reportedly, additional cuts to the Spirit lineup may come soon as sources indicate that Crystal Dunn may soon be leaving the Spirit lineup.
The Nutmeg News will have more on this as the Spirit continue gutting their roster.
